Chevy Tire Pressure Guide

mechanic checking tire pressure
Keeping your tires at the proper pressure should be a key part of your auto maintenance routine! What is the tire pressure for a Chevy Equinox, Malibu, or Silverado? You should fill the tires of most non-commercial vehicles to 35 PSI, although heavy-duty work trucks will require higher PSI. Below, we cover what every Macon driver should know about Chewvy tire pressure.

Is Your Chevy Tire Pressure Too Low?

Newer vehicles make it easy to tell when there’s a problem with your Chevy tire pressure: most use a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) to electronically gauge the pressure of each tire and then alert you with a dashboard warning light. In older cars that don’t have a TPMS, you can check tire pressure manually with a tire pressure gauge. If your car’s steering or acceleration feels sluggish, it’s a good idea to check and see whether any of your car’s tires have fallen lower than the recommended tire pressure.

Recommended Tire Pressure for Chevy Vehicles

What is the tire pressure for a Chevy sedan, truck, or SUV? The recommended tire pressure for lighter, smaller vehicles is higher than the pressure required for heavier vehicles. If they’re used for high-speed driving, vehicles of all sizes will also need higher tire pressure. See below for a brief breakdown of recommended tire pressures:

  • The recommended tire pressure for the Chevy Malibu sedan and the Equinox SUV, for instance, is 35 PSI.
  • For most non-commercial vehicles, you should aim for a PSI of between 30 and 35. However, higher PSI is recommended for heavy-duty trucks (larger than half-ton) as well as heavily-loaded half-ton trucks.
  • What is the tire pressure for a Chevy Silverado 1500? A PSI of around 35 should suffice if your truck isn’t carrying an especially heavy load. Silverado heavy-duty trucks will need higher pressure, typically between 60 and 75 PSI.
